Useful tips/info

Hardwood vs. carpet or tiles

Hardwood generally commands awe and is more impressive than tile or carpet. In addition, you will likely replace the carpet every 5 to 10 years and tile every 15 years.

Hardwood is one of the oldest flooring materials there is, and it never goes out of style. Because of the large variety of trees and wood types, a world of colors, consistencies, designs, and grain patterns are available.

Hardwood floors,  whether solid or engineered are highly durable and resistant to every day wear and tear. Due to them being natural products they hold the warmth much better than any man-made laminates, tiles or stone floors so under foot they are much more comfortable, especially in the colder months of the year.

Parquet Flooring

Parquet flooring was originally used to replace marble and stone floors, which means it's very durable and, as it's made of hardwood, will show very little signs of normal wear and tear over the years.

Parquet flooring is sophisticated and bold, making it a popular choice for formal settings such as living rooms, dining rooms, and foyers as well as in midcentury modern home styles.

Made of hardwood, parquet has a long lifespan, even able to last for up to 50 years in one place.

Cleaning and maintaining parquet floors is relatively straightforward. Routine sweeping and occasional mopping with a damp cloth are usually sufficient for keeping the floor in top condition.

Rejuvenating wooden stairs & railings

You need to sand the wood evenly and thoroughly in any areas you plan to paint. You can paint over painted wood, but depending on the age or your stairs, you might need to strip old paint back first. You can do this with a paint stripper or by sanding, but use caution as old paint may be lead-based.

Refinishing stairs and rails without sanding

This technique involves using a floor buffer with a special abrasive screen or pad. The screen gently abrades the top layer of the stairs, removing the old finish or stain without the need for heavy sanding. After the screening process, the stairs can be treated with a new finish or stain to achieve the desired look

My hardwood floor worn out

If your hardwood floor's finish is worn out in high-traffic areas, it's a clear sign that refinishing is needed. There is an easy way to check this is by pouring a small amount of water onto the floor. If the water beads up, the finish is still doing its job. If it soaks in and darkens the wood, it's time for refinishing.

With regular wear and tear, the finish on your hardwood floor should last about 7-10 years. Floors in high-traffic areas or that are exposed to a lot of sunlight may need to be refinished more often.
